Eliminate Unjust Water Meter Fees for Henderson Residents

The Issue

I, a dismayed resident of Henderson, KY, along with others, have been unjustly charged fees for defective water meters that the city officials and the manufacterer of the water meters knew were faulty. We have been entrusted to these utilities, yet our trust is broken as we are left to bear the brunt of something we had no control over.

The bothersome extra cost stems from defective water meters that give inaccurate readings, leading to unjustified extra costs on our bills. These are meters for which the city itself has admitted to being faulty. In spite of this acknowledgment, the city residents carry the financial impact, an inconvenience that should have been shouldered by the manufacturer of the water meters or the city itself.

Nationwide, the practice of transferring the cost of faulty utility infrastructure to residents is considered unethical. According to the American Water Works Association (AWWA), utilities are responsible for maintaining accurate metering and bearing the expenses related to equipment failure.

Therefore, we call for a review and redress of this situation in Henderson KY. All fees that have been unjustly charged to city residents due to faulty water meter readings should be removed, and any payments already made should be credited back to the residents' accounts. It is not the residents' responsibility to pay for shortcomings in city infrastructure or manufacturing defects.

With your support, we can hold those responsible accountable, and protect the pockets of Henderson's hardworking residents by eliminating these unjust fees. Please sign this petition and stand with us.
