The Issue

Imagine inviting your family or friends over to your apartment, anticipating a pleasant evening or an important occasion, only to be met with a hurdle that costs $15 a day. This is the new reality that residents of Copper Beech Apartments in Mount Pleasant face. Starting November 15th, every non-resident, including loved ones, family, and friends, has to pay this substantial fee or risk their vehicle being towed. For us, residents, this adds a layer of stress and inconvenience that affects our daily lives.

Copper Beech already suffers from limited parking availability, and now introducing a hefty fee exacerbates the problem. This decision does not just inconvenience us; it strains our relationships by discouraging visits from loved ones. In a community like ours, where social interaction is a cornerstone of well-being, these charges impose an unnecessary burden and create a barrier. Why bother renting such a large apartment space if you can’t invite your friends to fill it? Would you feel comfortable charging your friends $15 to visit your home?

There is no real justification for this high fee other than to line the pockets of the upper management who impose it, funneling money directly to their corporate office and the towing companies they sign deals with. Money that doesn’t go back into the residences themselves- residents have entered their newly leased buildings to find broken appliances, paint-covered furniture, and a lack of initiative to deliver on the “quality” they promise.  There is truly no need for this new stipulation, especially given that alternative solutions could be implemented that balance the need for regulated visitor parking without imposing financial penalties. For instance, offering a reasonable validation system for residents to distribute a limited number of guest passes per month, creating more guest parking, anything else could alleviate this issue without creating a financial strain.

To Copper Beech management, we urge you to reconsider this fee structure. Consider the effects on community spirit and the emotional toll on residents who choose to call Copper Beech their home. We seek a fair and equitable approach to visitor parking that gives residents the freedom to welcome guests without worrying about excessive charges to their loved ones. A fee as unjust as this will also greatly hurt any incentive to sign leases with copper beech in the future.

It's time we collaborate for a solution that benefits everyone. Please join us in pushing for the elimination of unfair visitor parking fees at Copper Beech.
