Eliminate Tolls on the Belle Chasse Bridge

The Issue

As concerned citizens of Plaquemines Parish, we face an uphill battle. The planned toll on the new Belle Chasse bridge threatens our community. The charges will only exacerbate the economic burden for many of us who already pay our fair share in taxes. We believe it is unjust to require additional payments to simply enter and leave our own parish. Moreover, this toll isn't just a threat to our households, but also to our local economy.

The vibrant small businesses that make our parish unique are at risk. Outside residents, who are essential for their survival, may avoid doing business in the parish to avoid the toll payment. This situation could lead to our beloved local shops going out of business, undermining the vitality of our community.

Furthermore, studies show that toll roads can unintentionally lead to higher traffic on toll-free roads, causing more congestion in residential areas (Transportation Research Board, 2019). This is surely to happen as drivers will use Woodland Highway as an alternative route. We must prevent this from happening in Belle Chasse where the residents are already suffering from the current traffic situation.

The economic future of Plaquemines Parish's small businesses and its inhabitants are at stake. We urge decision-makers to eliminate the toll on the new Belle Chasse bridge. Let's save our hometown and safeguard the local businesses that give it life. Sign this petition and help us make a difference.
