Eliminate the Pink Tax in Canada through Legislative Action

The Issue

The Pink Tax refers to the additional amount women are charged for certain products or services, such as toiletries, toys, and clothing. In Canada, this gender-based price discrimination is a prevalent issue that needs immediate attention. According to a study by the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives (2016), women pay approximately 43% more than men for personal care products. This unfair pricing practice not only perpetuates gender inequality but also places an unnecessary financial burden on women. In partnership with Voices of Olympia Canada, we urge the Canadian government to implement legislation that prevents the enforcement of the Pink Tax in Canada. By doing so, we can take a significant step towards achieving economic equality between genders and promoting fair trade practices within our society.
