Eliminate the "Felon" Label from All Applications

Eliminate the "Felon" Label from All Applications
The Issue
I am sharing my story as a convicted felon who has faced countless obstacles in securing job opportunities and gaining access to rental properties. People, like me, who are trying to reintegrate into society are being held back by the stigma that the label of "felon" engenders. This issue is far from trivial; US Department of Justice statistics show that approximately 70 million Americans have been involved in the criminal justice system. These individuals face numerous discriminations, with 60% of individuals being unemployed one year after being released from prison and over 30% struggling to find secure housing.
Moreover, the current highest office in the United States is held by a 34-time convicted felon. If they can lead our nation, then it surely undermines the label's implication that we are not fit for employment, housing, or other areas of normal societal participation. It is past due for a change in how we, as a society, deal with those who have paid their debt to society.
Henceforth, we demand the immediate removal of the term "felon" on job applications, rental applications, professional certifications, and any other forms or systems that perpetuate this barrier to re-integration and stigmatization. Every individual deserves a fair shot at a second chance and should not be confined by their past mistakes. Please support this important cause. Sign this petition today to take a step towards a more inclusive and just society.
