As a family with four women, it is a big challenge to continually shoulder the cost of essential feminine hygiene products like tampons and pads. These are not luxury goods, but basic necessities for women's health. Regrettably, they come with a price that is not regulated and is, in all fairness, unduly burdensome to many families and women.

In the United States, it is estimated that a woman will spend an average of $6,360 on menstrual products in her lifetime (source: State of the Period, THINX Period Tax Report). This is a significant outlay which is unavoidable as menstruation is a natural process that women have no control over.

In some parts of the world, governments have stepped up to either subsidize or completely remove the cost of these products for their citizens. It's time for us to lead a similar change here. These products should not be treated as any other consumer goods as they are integral to the wellbeing and dignity of all women.

So let's stand together and compel our policymakers to do the right thing. Make tampons and pads free for women. Sign the petition, let's make this important change happen.
