Eliminate Taxation on Overtime and Double Time Work Hours

The Issue

As a hardworking parent, I know the sacrifice it takes to stay after an 8-hour shift for overtime or double time. We give our all to our companies, often missing precious moments with our loved ones. Yet, when we receive our paychecks, we find that these extra hours of work are heavily taxed. This feels unjust and discouraging. Why should we be asked, bullied into or even offered to work over time/ double time for it to be taxed on top of the 8 hours you worked already being taxed. Enough is enough! Our hard work needs to be appreciated more especially at the fact that these big companies are who benefit more than the employee while we end up injured, tired, restless and with a long list of health issues that come from over working. At least these big fat cat companies should make OT and DT be more beneficial for the employee! We already have to deal with the extremely expensive cost of living here in California. Let us keep more of our money to be able to have a more livable wage. In

In the United States, overtime pay is generally taxed at a higher rate than regular income. According to the IRS guidelines, any income earned beyond $39,475 (as of 2020) falls into a higher tax bracket (source: IRS). This means that many workers who put in extra hours end up paying more taxes on their hard-earned money.

This petition calls for an end to this practice. We believe that those who choose to work beyond their regular hours should not be penalized with additional taxes on their overtime or double time earnings. Instead, they should be rewarded for their dedication and commitment.

We urge lawmakers to reconsider this policy and make changes that reflect fairness and respect for worker's rights and efforts. It's time we made it worth missing out on being with our loved ones by allowing workers to keep all of their hard-earned money from overtime or double time work hours.

Please sign this petition if you agree that no one should be penalized for working harder!
