I am a healthcare worker at a FMC hospital in Calgary, AB, Canada. Every day, I pay $15 just to park my car and go to work. This is not only an additional financial burden on us who are already working tirelessly on the frontlines but also an unfair practice that needs immediate attention.

Healthcare workers are essential personnel who put their lives at risk every day to care for others. The World Health Organization reports that as of September 2020, hundreds of thousands of health workers worldwide have been infected with COVID-19 (source: WHO). Despite this risk, we continue to serve our communities diligently.

In many parts of the world including some cities in Canada like Toronto and Vancouver, parking fees for healthcare workers have been waived during the pandemic (source: CBC News). It's time Calgary follows suit.

We urge the city officials and hospital administrators in Calgary to eliminate parking fees for all healthcare workers immediately. This small act can significantly alleviate some of the stress we face daily while serving our community during these challenging times.
