Paly's student board representative position remains a crucial point of student voice. Currently, there is a process outlined in the ASB constitution that holds a review panel for candidates of this board rep position. If they fail the panel, they are forbidden from running. The Paly administration holds influence on the results of this review panel, and has in the past prevented possible candidates from running out of fear of controversy. This is a process that Gunn's board rep does not have. The school administration or other faculty should not have this amount of influence when it comes to not only a student representative position, but one that is so important to it. With the February 10th PAUSD school board meeting, I am worried they will use this piece to further exclude candidates they see as "controversial" (Having an opinion). I encourage all Paly students to sign this petition in support of removing this piece from the ASB constitution to pressure school officials to comply with such a change.
