I know numerous New Yorkers who've been unable to receive their high school diploma because of the unique requirement of the New York City Regents. New York is the single state that mandates this exam, putting an insurmountable hurdle on the path to graduation and placing unnecessary stress on both students and their families.

The consensus is clear: class 2025 shouldn't have to wait until the 2027-2028 school year for the removal of this burden. Time and again, studies have shown that standardised testing does not guarantee student success post high school.
