I am a Tiny House Consultant, Dweller, and  Affordable Housing Advocate in Hamilton, ON, and affordable housing is a matter close to my heart. The current minimum lot size requirement for detached Additional Dwelling Units (ADUs) in the Rural Hamilton Official Plan restricts the potential for affordable housing solutions.

By eliminating the minimum lot size requirement for detached ADUs, we can create opportunities for more affordable housing units without significantly altering our rural landscapes. This change would allow homeowners with smaller lots to contribute to easing the affordability crisis by adding rental units on their properties.
