We, the residents of Okaloosa and Walton Counties, call on the Mid-Bay Bridge Authority, local leaders, and the State of Florida to eliminate tolls for local residents. Our tax dollars already support infrastructure and public services—let tourists and out-of-county travelers bear the toll burden, not the people who live and work here

The Mid-Bay Bridge is a vital lifeline for the residents of Okaloosa and Walton Counties. Many of us rely on it daily for commuting to work, taking our children to school, attending medical appointments, enjoying the beach, supporting local businesses, and visiting family. But every crossing comes at a cost—not just in time, but in dollars that add up quickly.

We believe it is unfair that residents are required to continually pay tolls to use a bridge in their own community, especially when we already pay our fair share through local and state taxes. These taxes fund road maintenance, public safety, and infrastructure. Why should we be forced to pay again simply for traveling within our own counties?

The elimination of all Mid-Bay Bridge tolls for verified residents of Okaloosa and Walton Counties

Maintaining tolls for tourists and non-residents who do not contribute local taxes but still benefit from our infrastructure
An easy and fair system to verify local residency for toll exemption (such as license plate registration, address verification, or SunPass profiles)

Other Florida communities have implemented resident exemptions or discounts—why not us?

This policy would:

Provide relief to working families

Still maintain essential funding through tourism and visitor tolls
