Eliminate Mandatory ID Requirement for Bathroom Use in Brighton Schools
Eliminate Mandatory ID Requirement for Bathroom Use in Brighton Schools
The Issue
In Eagle Ridge Academy students are currently required to present their IDs to use the school bathrooms or get lunch. This policy has resulted in unnecessary restrictions and inconveniences for many students who may forget their IDs at home. The limited time during passing periods further exacerbates this issue, preventing some from using the bathroom for several hours due to long queues. While it is understood that this rule aims to prevent misuse of bathroom privileges, it unfairly penalizes all students instead of focusing on those who abuse these privileges.
According to a study by the American Academy of Pediatrics, holding urine for prolonged periods can lead to health issues such as urinary tract infections and bladder problems (American Academy of Pediatrics). As young adults with physiological needs, it is crucial that we have unrestricted access to basic amenities like bathrooms during school hours.
We propose a more targeted approach where only those found misusing bathroom privileges are held accountable rather than implementing blanket rules that affect all students. We urge our school administrators in Brighton schools to reconsider this policy and prioritize student welfare over stringent regulations.
