Eliminate Laptops and Tablets from Public Schools

The Issue

I speak as a concerned parent watching my child's health deteriorate due to extensive screen time. My son spends over 200 hours a month squinting at text and images on his school-provided laptop. His excessive exposure to digital screens has resulted in the development of Myopia (short-sightedness). That's not what public education should expose children to.

Public schools were not designed to become a venue for harmful technological overexposure. Besides the risk it poses to our kids' physical health, the economic impact on taxpayers is considerable. The cost involved in providing laptops and tablets, maintaining high-level IT security, and adapting to constant technological updates is overwhelming.

Furthermore, the presence of electronic devices in the educational environment introduces risks that extend beyond budgetary implications. They open channels for children to access inappropriate content, both during school and at home.

On another note, digital screens act as major distractions in a learning environment. A study published in Psychol Consequences suggests that the use of laptops in classrooms negatively affects learning, as it led to lower student test scores (Clayson & Haley, 2017).

We need to protect our children's health and prioritize effective learning methods. Let's demand that public schools switch back to traditional teaching methods. Please sign this petition to eliminate laptops and tablets from our public schools.
