We find it alarming that in today's education system, programs like GoGuardian are allowed, which actively monitor student activity. It is invasive and doesn't respect the rights of minors. The rise of digital surveillance in schools, along with the use of GoGuardian, has seen an uptick due to distance learning. Approximately 10,000 schools across the US use tools like GoGuardian to oversee student screens (National Education Policy Center). While the objective may be to safeguard students from harmful content, the implementation raises serious privacy concerns. Surveillance does more harm than good, often leading to stress, stifling creativity, and harming the trust between students and educators. It's time to reevaluate the ethics of digital surveillance in education and especially programs like GoGuardian.
