Sports, an area designed to unite people, is instead pushing people apart with severe gender inequalities. Women are often allocated fewer resources, less pay, and less visibility as compared to their male counterparts. In international women's football, for instance, it was reported that women’s teams received 44% less investment than men’s teams globally (FIFA Gender Equality Report 2020). This isn't only unfair, but it also deprives talented athletes from achieving their potential simply because of their gender. We call on sports organizations and institutions worldwide to uphold the principles of fairness, by ensuring equitable distribution of resources, pay, and opportunities for both men and women.
