UPDATE

Thank you for supporting our petition to eliminate the Eastern Transition Area from the Aiken County DRAFT Comprehensive Plan. Nearly 1400 concerned citizens have signed!

Here are a few important ACTION ITEMS & KEY DATES

1) Verify your residence or property address. We need to know how many of you live or own property in/near the proposed transitional area. We've set up a dedicated email account to receive this information. Please email your residence/property address to: PreserveEastAiken@proton.me

2) Attend two important meetings:

March 10, 5:30-7:30 PM in the Sandlapper Room, First Floor, 1930 University Parkway: Public Information Meeting on Comprehensive Plan, with limited opportunity for written comments.

  • Please bring your written comments -- polite and specific -- to leave with staff. If there are things that you like about the DRAFT Comprehensive Plan, please lead with that, but conclude by pointing out that the eastern "transition area" must be eliminated, reduced, or moved westward, back toward the developed area.

March 17, 7:00 - 9:00 PM in County Council Chambers, Third Floor, 1930 University Pkwy

  • At this meeting, we expect the first reading of a motion to adopt the Comprehensive Plan, either as written -- with the eastern "transition area" unchanged -- or with modifications made in response to our petition. Please plan to attend and show a strong unified opposition to development and sprawl in our agricultural and equestrian areas.

3) Submit written comments at this link:  https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/7SLQCJY

  • Please leave polite and focused comments. Suggested comments include, “I support the preservation of existing agricultural and equestrian areas in the eastern part of Aiken County” and “I want the Rural Preservation district in eastern Aiken County expanded and extended to protect agricultural and equestrian land use."

Note: The eastern transitional area and associated economic development hub are part of Councilman Ron Felder’s District #1. Councilman Felder’s email is: rfelder@aikencountysc.gov
