Eliminate Downtown Caldwell Parking Meters to Support Local Businesses
The Issue
We are a family-owned business located in the heart of downtown Caldwell, Idaho representing the voices of fellow business owners and patrons who form our thriving local community. Day by day, we have seen the detrimental effects of the newly installed parking meters downtown. Business is dwindling, customers are unhappy, and the vibrant community spirit is being sapped by this unnecessary and financially burdensome addition.
Downtown is the beating heart of Caldwell, a place full of small businesses that rely on the goodwill and support of local residents and visitors alike. Parking meters act as a barrier to this support. With each quarter, dime, or nickel slipped into the meter, feels like another block on community patronage. It is crucial to understand, especially in the current economic climate catalyzed by the global pandemic, even a minor decrease in foot traffic can lead to the closure of small businesses. This is not a hypothetical fear, but a stark reality many businesses are facing across America right now.
Many cities across the country are increasingly recognizing the unintended harm caused by parking meters and are looking into alternative methods. For instance, the city of Denver abolished downtown parking meters in 2010 and experienced a subsequent boost in local visitation and business patronage.
We believe, for the sake of Caldwell's future and our downtown community's sustained growth, removing parking meters is the best course forward. We love our city, and wish to see it flourish. Help us raise our voices together against these parking meters, for the benefit of local businesses, residents and our cherished community vibe.
Please sign this petition to remove the parking meters in downtown Caldwell. It is a small action that can make a vast difference in the livelihood of our local economy and community. Show your support for local businesses and say no to parking meters.
The Caldwell City Council is holding a "Parking Meter Workshop", where they will be discussing the future of parking meters. This meeting is on Monday, August 26th at 6 PM. Your attendance & participation is crucial—don’t miss the chance to have your say on this issue in person. We hope to see you there!
