As students of Newton South High School, we witness the discrepancies and limitations in our access to Advanced Placement (AP) classes, particularly in the Social Sciences/History and English departments. While our counterparts in neighboring schools can explore their academic interests and strengths by taking a diverse range of AP classes, we find our options restricted due to the prevailing policies in our institution.

This discrepancy affects not only our intellectual exploration, but also our college applications and our future. According to a study by the College Board, participation in AP courses positively correlates with college readiness, higher GPAs in university, and an increased chance at college graduation in four years.

The current limitations at Newton South prevent us from flexing our intellectual curiosity and hinder our potential for growth. We earnestly request the administration and the education board to look into this matter with immediate effect. It's time to broaden the educational opportunities available to us, aligning us with our peers at other institutions, and enabling us to reach our full academic potential.
