Hello! This is Leila and Alyssa, and we had to do a social movement for a sociology project in our criminal justice class, Leila and Alyssa wanted to focus on helping save an endangered animal! Elephants are being hunted and killed for a material called Ivory that is in their tusks, and due to this it is putting them at risk of be coming extinct. 

Please keep in mind that if you're Warren Tech North student you are only allowed to sign ONE petition for a criminal justice student! So if you have already signed another petition you can not sign this one :( although if you're still interested in helping elephants because they're endangered there are some other ways you can help! :) Additionally if you plan on signing this petition and want to help even more keep reading! (There's more info at the bottom on how you can help!)

There are two main types of elephants that are both endangered. African elephants and Asian Elephants, here is a list of different endangered elephant species within those two categories: (* means critically endangered)

-African elephants: Loxodonta africana, Loxodonta cycllotis, African bush/ savanna elephant, Nambia desert elephants, Mali desert elephants, and African forest elephants*

-Asian elephants: Elephas Maximus, Borneo elephant, Sumatran elephant*, Sri Lankan elephants, and Indian elephants

Our petition is to encourage outlawing any sales of real elephant products, we want to protect elephants and make sure they are around for a long time! By outlawing the sale of Ivory and other parts of elephants, there will be less of a demand for Ivory, giving elephant hunters less of a reason to hunt and kill elephants. We want to make sure there are plenty of elephants around the world for everyone to enjoy! We want them to thrive in the wild, thrive in zoos around the world, and continue to have elephants live a happy life! 

Imagine going to the zoo one day and not seeing an elephant exhibit, or taking your nieces, nephews, children, etc and having to tell them elephants don't exist anymore. 

Although this petition is to stop the sales of elephant hunted products in the US, we want to make sure elephants have lots of room in their natural habitat as well as any places like zoos or circuses that are homes to elephants as well and there are other ways you can help!
