Introduce online voting for elections
The Issue
In the 2015 General Election, only 66% of those registered to vote in the United Kingdom visited their local polling stations. For me this figure is truly shocking. If 30% of those registered to vote (never mind people who aren't registered) aren't voting in our General Elections, how can we call Britain a democratic society?
Therefore, I believe an online voting system would making voting so much easier for everyone - whether you have a disability, frail, or simply don't have time to visit a polling system - in short it will be more accessible.
Furthermore, let's not forget the costs of town councils hosting polling stations and sending out polling cards. It costs on average £1,000 to send polling cards to 2,000 residents, whilst it costs £2,000 to provide polling stations per local council. In the current economic climate, with local councils budgets being squeezed, an online voting system would prove to be more cost-effective so councils' money can go towards public sectors in need such as our hospitals and schools.
