Electoral College: Compromise and Elect President Kasich and VP Kaine on December 19th
On December 19th, the Electors of the Electoral College will cast their ballots.
If the Electors vote the way their respective states voted, Mr. Trump will become President on January 21st. However, the Electors can vote for someone else if they choose. Even in states where that is not allowed, their vote would still be counted -- they would pay a small fine -- which concerned Americans and citizens of the world would be glad to pay for them!
We are calling on the Electors to cast their ballots for the Republican Governor of Ohio, John Kasich, as President and the Democratic Senator from Virginia, Tim Kaine, as Vice President. Why?
Mr. Trump is unfit to serve. His temperament and his ignorance make him a danger to the Republic and to our allies in other nations. Even many Americans who voted for him are concerned about his lack of qualifications for the Presidency of the United States.
Therefore, it's been argued that the Electoral College should choose Secretary Clinton as President instead, partly because she handily won the national vote. Yet millions of Americans would strongly oppose Secretary Clinton being made President.
A compromise is in order!
In order to begin to heal our divided nation, we strongly urge the Electoral College to elect a Republican as President and a Democrat as Vice President. Giving the Presidency to a Republican would acknowledge that the Republican candidate won more states. Giving the Vice Presidency to a Democrat would acknowledge that the Democratic candidate received more votes.
Since time is short, we urge the Electoral College to select Governor Kasich and Senator Kaine. Governor Kasich sought the Republican nomination for President and Senator Kaine was chosen as the Democratic candidate for Vice President. Both have a long record of honorable public service and are qualified to lead the Executive Branch of our government. Neither of them are extreme ideologues. Their election would not constitute a clear and present danger to our Republic and the world.
As a practical matter, if all of the Democratic Electors vote for Governor Kasich and Senator Kaine, only forty or so Republican Electors have to vote the same way in order for Mr. Trump to remain a private citizen.
The Founders feared the election of a dangerous, unqualified candidate like Mr. Trump. They trusted the Electors from the various states to save the day if America faced an electoral crisis. We face such a crisis today. Therefore, we urge the Electors to perform their constitutional duty and stop Mr. Trump from becoming President.
