Biosolids are comprised of the sludge that remains after the water treatment process is complete. It contains many harmful contaminants including human pathogens, pharmaceuticals, heavy metals, and industrial chemicals. It is stored in open lagoons. The one planned for Perry County will, if approved, be a reservoir of over 20 million gallons of this toxic brew. From here, it will be transported to lands near you, marketed to farmers as "beneficial nutrient" fertilizer, without disclosure about the actual chemical stew of toxins contained in it. The lagoon presents a direct and imminent threat to wildlife, ground water, streams and rivers, in Perry County and nearby communities, but also by extension through the application on farm lands to the environment, wildlife, and the water resources of the areas where applied, and beyond through contamination of the food supply. The process by which these lagoons are approved is kept under wraps and out of the attention of the citizens it will effect. It is going on all over the United States and right here in Ohio. Other countries have banned this practice. We need to stand up for our children and stand up for the health of our communities.
