Whitestone CYO Property Development

Whitestone CYO Property Development
The Issue
Once upon a time Whitestone was a quiet little residential community with a large and famous outlet for children within the community and its surrounding area. This was known as the CYO camp and WHITESTONE POOL. With "progress" the property was sold and developed. What remains is 6 uncared for acres with what has become an infamous eyesore with a blue fence. I am proposing that the city re acquire this parcel and return it back to the community. With all of the homes, all of the sports leagues, and all of the children living in the community, there aren't any adequate sports fields.. I am proposing that the city acquire and return this last clean parcel back to the community in the form of fields.
Think about it, with 6 acres, there can FINALLY be an actual 90 ft baseball diamond in the community. The parcel can include ample on site parking, a true soccer field or two, unlike the mess at Little Bay, Maybe a Lacrosse or Football field. It can have a couple of all weather running and walking tracks, to accomodate runners, walkers, and anyone that just wants to take a stroll. There is room to have a clubhouse that can serve as a place for bathrooms and vending machines (fundraising) . Take a look at The Padavan Fields in Bellerose.
All this can be maintained by the people of the community. The existing little league organizations, as well as other local youth sports leagues, along with local civic groups , can create a board of directors and share the responsibilities. They can organize volunteers to maintain the properties, they can use the money collected from fees and other fundraisers to maintain the property. It can be fenced off and opened and closed by members of the board, during game days.
If planned properly, with input from the community, this can be a crowning jewel for the Whitestone community.
