Sub : Request to Abolish EIA 2020 draft in its current form.

Dear Sir,

We the citizen of India do not want more disasters like,

1. Bhopal Gas Leak Tragedy,
2. Vishakhapatnam Gas Leak Tragedy,
3. Assam Oil Leak Tragedy,
4. etc.

And hence we request you to kindly abolish the proposed draft of EIA 2020, which would harm the safety of the Environment and the Human Kind.

The draft does not acknowledge the best practices in EIA from across the world. Your draft is regressive because it aims at approving projects more than assessing them. 

It is unacceptable that we, the people of this country, are not allowed to speak about the projects that are imposed on our neighbourhoods, our coasts and forests.

The draft EIA 2020 proposed by the Ministry clearly reflects the fear of public participation in the central government. The draft gives impunity to so many projects from public hearings that it makes us think that the draft has been made only considering the corporates interests and not for the people at large and the society.

Hence we request the Ministry to withdraw the EIA 2020 and replace it with a progressive law that promotes sustainability, combats climate change and keep the safety of the people and environment on topmost priority.
