Ban Use of Wild Animals in Springfield Township, PA

Ban Use of Wild Animals in Springfield Township, PA
The Issue
On July 4th, 2019, the Springfield Township Republican Party of Delaware County, PA once again used a live elephant as a prop in the annual 4th of July parade. On this hot summer day, Republican Party Chairman, Michael Puppio, rode on the back of a captive elephant on a parade route crowded with people. The Springfield Republican Party has for many years used a live elephant as advertisement, riding on and parading the poor animal around with bull hooks as cruel incentive to cooperate. This elephant could have been injured or caused injury to someone else. There are many reports of captive elephants, and other wild animals, breaking loose and injuring or killing bystanders or their handlers.
Wild animals do not belong in parades, circuses, petting zoos or any other exhibits. These displays lead the public to believe it is acceptable to exploit animals for human entertainment. They teach children that animals are here for our use and do not deserve basic rights. Wild animal acts have proven to be dangerous, irresponsible, abusive and unnecessary. Public events such as a parade can be fun and enjoyable without harming others. Technological advances and human ingenuity have made modern entertainment possible without the use of animals.
Please help us end the use of wild animals at all events taking place in Springfield Township Delaware County by signing this petition. The commissioners have the power to create legislation to stop the use of wild animals in future Township events. We need to let them know that the public demands that this legislation be enacted
