What Is Premarin?
Premarin is a hormone replacement therapy that uses the urine of a pregnant mare (female horse) to make their drug. These horses are crammed into tiny stalls where they can barely move or lay down. They have to spend their whole lives tied in these tiny stalls with giant bags strapped to their groins in order to collect the urine. In order to make the drug more “efficient” they dehydrate the horses to make the drug more concentrated for hormones. In order for the urine to have the right hormones the horses have to remain pregnant which leads to overbreeding. The foals (baby horses) are considered “byproducts” and it takes “too much time” for the company to find homes for all of them so most all of them end up in slaughter houses for their meat. This company is cruel and it is horrifying that this is still going on to this day.

What can we do to help?

The main problem is that the company markets the drug so heavily that people don’t know where it actually comes from. There are at least 15 cruelty free options that are also better for human health. Horse urine contains more than 30 metabolites that are not naturally found in humans and we do not yet know the side effects it has on our bodies. A study by the Women’s Health Initiative found that women using Prempro, another form of Premarin, had increased the women’s risk of stroke by 41%, risk of heart attack by 29%, and the risk of breast cancer by 26%. There is no upside to this drug, so let’s protect our health and our animals! By signing this petition you are helping save countless numbers of horses and if we can ban the prescription of this drug in the U.S we can save thousands of innocent animals lives! Thank you so much for your support!
