Educational and Employment reform Opportunities for Prisoners

As someone who has spent years in prison, I know firsthand the struggles that come with reintegration into society. The harsh reality is that many of us are rejected by potential employers due to our criminal records, despite our sincere efforts to rehabilitate ourselves. This lack of opportunity makes it nearly impossible for us to prove that we have changed and are ready to contribute positively to society. Luckily for some they have reintegrated in society with employment and support, however the majority who are still behind bars do not get this support via real education e.g, courses that can be adapted and used in society and with employment.
It's time for a change. We need prisons to offer more courses and more workshops both inside and outside the facilities, regardless of whether they're closed or open conditions. These educational opportunities would provide prisoners with valuable skills needed for employment upon release to support them not returning to prison.
In addition, prisons should organize event days where outside employers come into prison to interact with prisoners who already possess qualifications can showcase their skills and abilities, making them more attractive prospects for employers after release.
According to justice.gov.uk, employment at 6 weeks post release from custody in 2023 was 16.4%.Yes it’s an increase by 2.8% but the margins are small and these stats should be 50%+. The reoffending rate is high and this is due to youths and adults coming out to nothing. I want to change the this and give back in both systems.
we make mistakes all of us, Some are punishable no question about that, But let’s not punish males and females on release from custody even further in the wider community.
We all deserve a second chance at life - let's make sure everyone gets it. Sign this petition today and help create a system where rehabilitation truly means preparing individuals for successful reentry into society, not just a phrase with no meaning.
“In order for CHANGE…they have to CHANGE the way of approach”
so let’s make this change!
