Several Dentistry and Medicine applicants across the UK woke up on the morning of Results Day to find that they had been rejected by their offers, due to being 'awarded' unfair downgraded grades, which do not reflect their ability or teacher's predictions in any way.

On the 17th of August, the government announced a u-turn which means everyone will receive the grades their centres predicted (CAGs)- for the majority of students, these grades are a true reflection of a student's capability and in most cases would have gotten students their first university choice. However, so many, like me, have been rejected by both their insurance and firm offers which means our rectified grades basically mean... nothing. It's too late.

We have had our places snatched from our hands and cannot even apply through clearing due to the extreme competitiveness of the Dentistry/Medicine courses. We cannot be deprived of our entries to pursue higher education, especially when we have worked so incredibly hard.

I am calling for action to be taken by the government so that clear guidelines are given to universities and ALL offer holders are accepted onto their courses for 2020 entry. Guidance specifically for Medicine/Dentistry offer holders should be made very clear as these courses have limited spaces. 

It is not our fault we fell victim to a standardised algorithm. And we should not have to give up a year or the places we earned for it. #HonourTheOffer. However, in cases where this is not possible whatsoever, offer holders should be given guaranteed deferred entry for 2021, regardless of their CAGs.

Do not force us to take a gap year that was never planned. Do not force us through the same grueling procedure of reapplying, retaking entrance UCAT/BMAT exams and interviews. We have been through enough already.
