India lacks not only infrastructure for sports but also the sporting culture. Parents still believe "Kheloge Kudoge Banoge Kharab, Padhoge Likhoge Banoge Nawab". This is the reason despite having a billion plus people, we have very less number of World Champions, we have abysmal medals tally in Olympics and all other major sports tournaments in the world. The fitness level of our school children is poor. We are the land of 'Yog' but the fruits of 'Yog or Yoga' are reaped by other cultures & countries. Sports, not only keeps the body fit, it also ensures good mental health. Those who regularly play sports are generally found gritty, tenacious, disciplined and vivacious. "Sports Encourage Team Work"
Because of above reasons, in our ancient culture, different types of sports was an integral part of Gurukul education. Sports help people in dealing with failures. "Sports Build Character"
Today, World Sports is one of the most rewarding careers in terms of everything but still we are running behind professions like Engineering, Medicine, Finance etc. We not only need all these professions but also need research in Sports Science, Sports Technology, Sports Medicine, Sports Management etc. And to achieve this, we need a revolution at the grass-root level, at primary school level.
