We urge you appointed Education Minister Gordon Dirks and Premier Jim Prentice, to provide the required space, a Jr. /High School for Public Education in Morinville
Why this petition matters
We, the supporters of Public Education in Morinville, demand that a public junior high and/or high school be built in Morinville, Alberta, as soon as possible. The unprecedented student growth of Morinville Public School (MPS) and the lack of proper infrastructure for junior high or high school students, leaves families little choice but to bus their children out of town to pursue their right to quality public education. In a community of over 9,400, there needs to be Public Education for all grades, K-12 inclusive. Delaying the issue is unacceptable and we hold the government of Alberta responsible for taking immediate action.
MPS is housed in a facility built for elementary students, with grades K-7 currently operating there. It should not continue to function as a Jr. High School. There is no space to grow, and none of the Science, Computer, or *CTS(career and technology studies) labs that are desperately needed. Morinville students deserve a fair and equal public education which includes the CTS programming the Alberta government boasts of, but MPS currently cannot provide.
