We have classes for Home economics, Physical education, computers, but why not Mental health education the standard? With the increasing epidemic of suicide among teens and adults I feel that this is absolutely necessary. We often ask ourselves WHY? But it should first be WHAT? What can we do before, during, after. Sometimes there aren’t always signs. I am petitioning with you today to make it a requirement for Mental health education to be mandatory for curriculum. Starting in Middle schools and high schools across the nation. There really needs to be awareness and a constant reminder that mental illness is just as important to learn about as physical health. I have been personally affected with mental health in my family and constantly I hear so many who aren’t always aware of what to do to seek help. I believe that if we armor our children with access in schools first hand, not as a secondary option but as the first line of defense with education on Mental health much like with other curriculum they will be armored with the tools necessary to help not only themselves, but possibly others. While it is a requirement in college why is it not in middle school and high schools? While there are other outside resources for these services it starts not only at home but should start in schools nationwide.
