The Issue
In our community in Jordan, street dogs are a common sight and, unfortunately, they are often treated with disregard and neglect. The prevailing mindset seems to be that personal comfort and relaxation outweigh the importance of coexisting peacefully with our natural surroundings and the animals that inhabit them. For example, when dogs bark, the default response is to call government authorities to have them removed, rather than addressing the root causes of their presence.
This petition addresses the tragic reality that government entities in Jordan are neither fully equipped nor properly funded to handle and care for these dogs. Many times, when dogs are captured, they end up in a grim reality, and the lack of preparation leads to tragic outcomes. Our neighborhood struggles with the misconception that providing dogs with food and water contributes to their presence as a nuisance, whereas in truth, these actions are essential for their survival and they are simply misunderstood.
Our area is blessed with ample empty lands where dogs have found refuge. They are friendly and simply seek sustenance and a safe environment. Those of us who try to help them are often criticized or blamed. This mindset and lack of awareness are creating a harmful environment, not just for animals, but for the overall ecological balance.
To address these issues, we propose an educational campaign aimed at reshaping public perceptions about street animals, particularly dogs, and the broader environment. This campaign must target various layers of society, from kids in schools to adults in the workforce.
Concrete actions should include collaborations with animal protection organizations and experts to create workshops, seminars, and informational materials. Government involvement is vital, pushing for new policies that advocate for sustainable coexistence and compassionate treatment of street animals. Additionally, community engagement programs can be initiated to inform and train people on how to live harmoniously with their surroundings, which includes understanding the benefits of having these animals among us.
This is not just about animals; it's about fostering a compassionate and responsible society. By re-evaluating our approach and attitudes, we can shape a future where humans and animals thrive in mutual respect. With your support, we can make a significant difference. Please sign this petition to bring positive change to our community and create a more informed and empathetic Jordan.
