Educate SCDSB Students on Human Trafficking Awareness and Prevention

Educate SCDSB Students on Human Trafficking Awareness and Prevention
Why this petition matters
Scary Fact: Simcoe County District School Board does not educate students on human trafficking awareness and prevention.
Even Scarier Fact: Did you know that Simcoe County is actually ranked #2 in Ontario for human trafficking?
Human Trafficking: the act of exercising control over a person through forced labour or sexual exploitation (victims are typically young).
Grooming: the act of fooling victims by promising them a better life, to spark the process of isolating them from their loved ones and beginning the exploitation.
Many schools in our district are located just near the 400-series highways, making our county a "hotbed" for human trafficking. Youth outreach councillors and case managers have seen girls as young as 14,15 and 16 try to escape trafficking and reach out for help. Doesn't it scare you that this could happen to you?
Human trafficking prevention starts with educating our teens, especially in disadvantaged neighbourhoods, on identifying the warning signs of grooming. By doing this, teens will be able to recognize if a situation they are in seems suspicious and could lead to human trafficking AND if someone around them is possibly being groomed or human trafficked.
Please sign this petition so that our school board can educate us on human trafficking prevention and awareness. You can be the smartest kid in SCDSB, yet still, become a victim of human trafficking.
Remember that just because it hasn't happened to you yet, doesn't mean it can't happen to somebody else.
