Jamie Dean Sauter was brutally assaulted and ganged up on by six police officers for a crime he did not commit. He was wrongfully accused of being in possession of a stolen vehicle. He was actually a victim of a swapped license plate and he was driving his own vehicle. Jamie identifies as being of Black/Indigenous/Latin/European/East asian descent. The officers spent no time inquiring but instead tackled him to the ground immediately. These officers treated Jamie like they would a wild animal. The brutal and unnecessary actions taken by these officers was out of hatred and his ethnicity was a determining factor in how this arrest was conducted. These officers involved held the "shoot first and ask questions later" mentality. They should no longer be able to work on the streets. Failing to hold these officers accountable will allow them and other members of the Edmonton Police Service to believe that they can wrongfully mistreat and humiliate other innocent people without severe consequences. The officers involved are not fit to hold a gun let alone a badge. These officers are guilty. Nobody is above the law including police officers. Do not let them roam free. This was a deliberate assault and they must be held accountable. Help us reach those who have the power to terminate these officers. No more of this in our city. I strongly encourage you to read a more thorough breakdown of the story.
