Voluntary resignation from Make: Magazine of Dale Dougherty after Naomi Wu accusations

The Issue

Dale Dougherty, CEO of Make: Magazine, accused Naomi Wu as not being a real person, and is a persona or multiple people, and claimed he had evidence of these accusations. When it was revealed that Ms. Wu is, in fact, a person who participates in the very community Mr. Dougherty helped to create, a shallow apology was issued on his Twitter.

In tech, diversity is a very real issue. Women are often overlooked as capable makers or technical people. Mr. Dougherty's comments only compound the issue; as someone who both publishes a magazine about makers and making, and is the CEO of that magazine, it is troubling that he would discount the very real work Ms. Wu has created.

As such, the larger maker community must demonstrate that this is unacceptable. Petitioning for his voluntary resignation will show how many people are concerned, or even affected, by his words.
