In light of recent reports by the NSW Government and Infrastructure Australia with the St Mary's metro link to the Western Sydney Airport doesn't make sense to me at this point in time.

I have been officially campaigning to extend the South West rail link from Leppington Station to Western Sydney since December 2019.

In early 2020 I collected 2350 signatures on a Paper Petition (my target is 10,000) supporting the extension of the South West rail link Petition going ahead prior to the Covid Lockdown.

It's a well known fact that the South West rail link from Leppington Station to Western Sydney Airport is a much shorter route than the St Mary's Metro link.

The South West rail link connects with the existing two Airports to the new Western Sydney Airport via the East Hills line and it allows people from the Illawarra, the Southern Highlands, South Western Sydney, the inner west and other areas on the existing rail network to access the new Western Sydney Airport.

WHY is the current State Government denying rail access to people from the South Western Sydney, the Illawarra and the Inner West to the new Western Sydney Airport for 30 years?

It also provides the option of traveling directly to the CBD via the Granville line and also traveling to Liverpool and Parramatta so that people have access to ALL three major city centres in the three city plan. Liverpool misses out with your current proposal.

In addition the rail corridor has already been established from Leppington Station to Western Sydney Airport and a number of properties have been acquired along the route.

The construction of the South West rail link from Leppington Station to Western Sydney Airport (if done following  proper planning principles) would provide 3 new stations with multi level car park providing 2000 spaces each.

This would be a great benefit to the existing and growing population in the South Western Sydney area, which is planned to accommodate another 1.3 million people and will be the size of Adelaide.

The NSW government’s justification for building a rail line to Sydney’s second airport has been savaged by the country’s peak infrastructure body, which warns the cost of the $11 billion project will far outweigh its benefit.

If you're thinking of catching a train to the new Western Sydney Airport in 2026, you might have to make other plans. A report from Australia's peak infrastructure body says the cost of the Airport Metro outweighs the benefits by almost $2 billion. Subscribe to 7NEWS for the latest video

‘Not ideal’: NSW government warned rushed airport metro would lead to cost blow-out

By Tom Rabe and Matt O'Sullivan

Government analysis of the western Sydney airport metro advised the state against trying to rush the delivery of the multi-billion dollar project in time for the airport’s opening, warning it could affect the cost.

The internal document outlining potential cost and timeline concerns was tabled to NSW Parliament less than 24 hours before a scathing Infrastructure Australia report was released on Friday, which found the benefits of the project did not justify its $11 billion price tag.

In light of the announcement of the Upper House Parliamentary Inquiry into the acquisition of property for major transport projects last week, i believe that the option of putting the St Mary's Metro link on Hold and proceeding with the South West rail link from Leppington Station to Western Sydney Airport instead should be seriously considered.

Your support to have the St Mary's Metro put on Hold in favour of the South West Rail link being constructed would be appreciated.

I look forward to your replies and views on this matter.

Yours Sincerely
