Good Afternoon Fellow Residents, Commuters and Petition Supporters

In this Update I cover the announcements made by the Local Politicians about the Edmondson Park station Multi Level Car Park Approval

Approval has come after widespread lobbying from the community, including numerous petitions calling for the urgently needed parking to end the nightmare for commuters who catch the train from Edmondson Park or Leppington station.

While Federal and State MPs were falling over themselves to take the credit for the latest announcement, community campaigner Michael Andjelkovic has no doubt who deserves a pat on the back the most.

“At the end of the day, the credit for this announcement should go to the commuters, residents and petition supporters who have signed and shared the online petition and been involved in signing nine other paper petitions over the last two years since the community campaign for #MoreParkingNow started,’’ he said in response to the announcement.

And also Mark Latham should be acknowledged for the role that he played in negotiations to have 3000 Car Parking Spaces approved between both Stations as per his Election Promise from February 2019.

“This announcement is still not the conclusion to our campaign but it certainly is a step forward in the right direction,’’ Mr Andjelkovic said.

“There is also the new paper petition calling for the extension of the South West rail link to the new airport which has 2,000 signatures out of a target of 10,000 which has stalled due to the Covid lockdown. Campaigning will continue on these issues.’’

MY CALL FOR A THANK YOU TO ALL PARTICIPANTS IGNORED

THIS WAS MY SPEECH TO LIVERPOOL COUNCILLORS IN FEB 2019

Mayor Waller, Councillors, CEO, Guests and Fellow Residents

I am here as a resident and the Author of the Car Parking Crisis Campaign Petition

I am pleased to be able to advise to this chamber that after almost 11 months of campaigning and Petitioning that Both Major Political Parties have made Elections Promises to Upgrade the Car Parking at Edmondson Park Station.

As you would be aware - A pledge of $40 Million Dollars to fund 700 Spaces has been made.

While I support a Thank You Letter being issued by Council on Behalf of the Community for the $40 million Car Park Election Promises I also believe that credit should be given where Credit is due.

I have also had comments made to me (via Social Media) that the Thank You Letter may be a little premature and we should wait until the Funds are actually allocated in the Budget, when work has started or even when The car Park is actually completed.

1) To the Editors and Journalists of the Local Newspapers for their Initial stories back in 2016 that created Initial awareness about the Parking Problems that evolved into the Car Parking Crisis of Today. And the continued articles that have been written over the last 3 years to maintain Public awareness of this Issue.

2) To the Local State MP Annoulack Chanthivong and Federal Member Anne Stanley together with Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller who Lobbied the State Government and generated articles for more Parking over a number of Years.

3) To Liverpool and Campbelltown Council Mayors, CEO’s and Staff who wrote to or negotiated with The Department of Transport and Infrastructure over the last four years regarding the Car Parking Crisis.

4) To all the Residents and Commuters that Signed the Petitions and showed the Government that the Community was concerned and did want this Issue resolved.

5) To the 5 State MP's who lodged Questions on Notice and Petitions to Parliament addressed to the Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Mr Andrew Constance regarding the Car Parking Crisis.

a) Annoulack Chanthivong MP for Macquarie Fields

b) Chris Patterson MP for Camden

c) Tania Davies MP for Mulgoa

d) Paul Lynch MP for Liverpool and

e) Melanie Gibbons MP for Holsworthy

6) To Andrew Constance Minister for Transport and Infrastructure for allocating funds in the 2018 Budget to investigate the matter of the Car Parking Crisis and Transport for NSW conducting those Investigations.

7) To the Premier Gladys Berejiklian who made the Decision to announce Election Promise of $40 Million for more Car Parking Spaces.

8) To Ms Melanie Gibbons MP for Holsworthy who assisted the Premier in announcing the $40 Million Election Promise at Edmondson Park Station.

9) Jodi McKay who then announced that the Labor Party would increase their Commitment and match the $40K

INSTEAD A THANK YOU Letter to the Premier and Melanie Gibbons only (Voted for by the 4 Liberal Party and 2 LCIT Party Councillors) was sent. Party Politics played out in the Council Chambers.

Then on 15th October 2019 I posted in an update

Information from Mark Lathams office, Petition Presentation and More

 1) MARK LATHAM KNOWS THE NUMBERS THIS IS INFORMATION ON THE CAR PARKING CRISIS OBTAINED BY MARK LATHAM I asked the transport Minister to provide statistics on the number of Opal card tap-ons in the morning peak between 5.00 a.m. and 9.00 a.m. at Leppington and Edmondson Park stations and then to compare that with the number of car parking spaces that have been provided. Last month, Monday to Friday, on average there were over 2,000 people tapping on at Leppington train station for their morning commute. There are 850 car spaces at the station. There are people parking...

And Finally From my 18th December 2019 Update

And this is to SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT regarding all the various claims for Credit

I believe that Credit should be given when and where Credit is due and I also believe that if you go back over my Updates you will find that they provide factual information and reports rather than “Political Spin or Spin Doctoring” so here goes ….

Congratulations and Thanks are definitely in order for these announcements especially to the 8000 Online Car Parking Crisis Petition Supporters and the 4500+ people who signed the 9 paper petitions in both the Liverpool and Macarthur region.

There are many people were involved in this effort from the Journalists and Newspapers who broke the story in 2016 and to everyone who has been involved in the Car Parking Crisis Petitions and Campaign for #MoreParkingNow.  I must also acknowledge the contribution by the Labor Party MP's Annoulack Chanthivong MP and Anne Stanley MP and the assistance of Liverpool Council Mayor Wendy Waller.

However, most importantly what hasn't been mentioned are the negotiations that have taken place between the Hon Mark Latham MLC and Transport Minister Andrew Constance MP over the last 2 months to achieve this outcome, after the last paper petition (that was organised by me) was presented to Parliament in October 2019 and the work that Mark Latham has been doing behind the scenes since he was elected.

I wanted to make you aware of the results that Mark Latham has achieved regarding the Car Parking Crisis in South West Sydney which the NSW State Liberal Government has firstly tried to ignore for years and then after making Election promises just prior to the March State Elections (which are now broken) has just made a new set of Promises regarding additional car Parking - "kicking the can up the road" with a new proposed completion date of Mid 2021 (I believe it when I see it).

It is now the 3rd June 2020 and we are still waiting to have the formal Construction Drawings finalised and approved. Work is supposed to start at both Leppington and Edmondson Park Stations by “Mid June”

Other POINTS TO NOTE

We need 10,000 signatures to call for the South West rail link to be extended to the Airport and only have 2,000 so far.

IF everyone who signed the paper Petition could take a signing sheet and bring back 10 signatures that would be great.

IF YOU EMAIL ME AT MICHAEL.INDEPENDENT1@GMAIL.COM  I will send you a PM with the PDF of the Petition signature sheet.

I am still working on obtaining information regarding Edmondson Park station temporary Car parking provisions.

Your Help is still needed to collect signatures for the new paper petition to extend the South West Rail Link from Leppington Station to the new Airport now.

I have changed the Car Parking Crisis Petition to ask for an extension of the South West Rail Link from Leppington Station to Airport with at least three stations NOW.

You can email me for a PDF copy of the Petition signing sheet at Michael.independent1@gmail

Message me via my Facebook Page www.facebook.com/Michael.Independent

I will provide a further Update on both Stations in the Next Update

Yours Sincerely
