D Cook started this petition to Edinburgh City Council

The recent lockdown led to a significant increase in active travel, with many people choosing to travel around cities by bike and by foot instead of car or public transport.

Edinburgh Council have introduced temporary measures that help support this under the "Spaces for people" initiative, such as temporary cycle lanes and suspension of parking in some local areas, that not only promotes travel by foot due to wider pavements, but helps reduce car usage on busy streets. This reduction in car usage helps support an improvement in air quality (In particular for streets such as St Johns Road which is one of the most polluted in Scotland), but also makes them them much safer and welcoming for pedestrians and cyclists of all ages and abilities. These have been introduced in a sensible way that maintains access to disabled and loading bays and maintains access to parking on side streets.

Support our petition to show Edinburgh City Council  the strength of positive support for these measures from our local communities, and call on them to follow the lead of cities such as Milan & Paris by using this as an opportunity to re-imagine travel in Edinburgh by implementing them on a permanent basis.
