In our community, we have created a false conflict that is this: parents who want their children back in school are anti-teacher. Nothing could be further from the truth. In order to clarify, we want to share what we collectively believe – in order to dispel any misconceptions.
The absolute best place for our children to learn is in a classroom, with a teacher.
Teachers are critical to our children’s development as they are adults they trust, respect and admire.
Learning is not simply what is taught, but the ability to engage with other adults. No technology or YouTube video is able to replicate this incredible bond.
No technology platform, even ones that deliver teachers into our homes via video, will meet the needs of our children(of any age).
Our older learners need teachers as much, if not more, than our youngest learners. What they learn from teachers prepares them for post-graduate careers in ways large and small.
Acknowledging that there is damage to our children not being in school is not anti-teacher. Just as teachers who ask for accommodation are not anti-student.
We are here to support teachers in their safe return to the classroom.
We are here because our children are not getting the education that they so desperately need. This is not an anti-teacher sentiment, nor is our message or push. In fact, our pleas to return to school have reached a maximum volume because we see the damage that is being done to our children. If you are a teacher, and need or want parent support, we welcome your involvement and your voice to learn more about your needs.
This community needs you, in person, more than ever.
