Stop our Legislature from dictating our Public School Schedule HB2303

The Issue

--Delaying the start of school is detrimental to the STUDENTS, who should always come first.  A later start date will force more class time being allocated to re-teaching previous curriculum that was forgotten over the summer.

--The original September start date for schools is a relic of an agrarian society based on crop harvest.

--Each district should be allowed to maintain local control of when their school year begins. Parents, Teachers, and publicly elected board members know what is best for their district.

--This bill is the action of one lawmaker who is proposing this change to force every district to align their start date with the start date of the charter school he runs.  This is a definite conflict of interest and must not be allowed to happen.

--Remind our Legislature they work for us and should serve the interests of the public, not their own self-interest.  Stop the bill.
