Dear friends and neighbours,
We were successful in Ku ring gai Council rejecting the completely inappropriate DA to build a Long Day Care facility for 84 children, with 15 staff, 1½ levels above ground/ 2 level underground parking for 18 vehicles, as it did not fit within the established character of a heritage conservation area and was considered out of context for the locality along with a myriad of other concerns and breaches.
Although this development did also not meet minimum regulatory requirements, the Turramurra based developers appealed to the Land and Environment Court in May who have now given us seven days notice of a mediation meeting on site at 9.30am Tuesday 30th September at 16 Burns Road Wahroonga.
Part of the Council objection includes the lack of on-site parking together with the significant impact to local traffic and resident parking.
Unfortunately the Court has chosen to hold their onsite meeting with Council and local objectors during School holidays when many local residents will be away with their families and unable to attend to voice their concerns. Local traffic congestion will also be minimised with no school pickups from WPS and other "normal" Wahroonga congestion giving a false impression of readily available street parking and minimal impact to local traffic.
If you are available and keen to stop this travesty, please take the time to drive over and attend the public meeting onsite at 16 Burns Rd from 9.30am next Tuesday to highlight community objection to the Land and Environment Court attendees and the project developers and to support Councils stand against this over development.
Councils full list of published reasons declining the project were:
• Adverse heritage impacts
• Unsuitability of the site for the proposed centre-based child care facility
• Non-compliances with national regulations for centre-based services
• Uncharacteristic built form
• Non-compliant side building setback
• Geotechnical impacts
• Tree removal and tree impacts
• Lack of on-site parking and safety issues with vehicular access
• Inadequate stormwater management
• Inappropriate landscape design
• Inadequate landscape plan
• Unauthorised works
• Visual privacy impacts
• Public interest
With sincere thanks in helping us preserve the character of our local community and its amenities.
