List Hyde Park Cavalry Barracks and ensure that its future is decided by Public Inquiry, not government profiteering in the run up to the election.

The Government stands to raise an estimated £650 million if it sells this prestigious site,  with fantastic views over Hyde Park, for development.   Foreign investors are already showing keen interest.   C20 Society believes that the current building, one of the foremost works of Sir Basil Spence, is architecturally ambitious and historically unique  and that the Government therefore has a legal duty to list it.   It was designed specifically for the Household Cavalry  the third stables and barracks in this location - a convenient short trot to Buckingham Palace. We are concerned that the possibility of financial gain may influence the Minister’s listing decision unlawfully.

If you think that London does not need more luxury flats, and that the future of this site should not be decided without a full and open debate, please join our call to list the Barracks.  

Listing will NOT mean that they will be kept at all cost, but it will be a way of ensuring a public inquiry can weigh up the economic, social and heritage arguments.   Do we want soldiers or oligarchs to enjoy land which was once part of Hyde Park?    Help us keep planning a democratic process.
