Do not allow Anellotech to build a smokestack and emit petrochemicals such as benzene and BTX into the residential area of Pearl River/Nanuet.

The Issue

We are residents and neighbors of Orangetown and Clarkstown, NY.  We are concerned about the potentially devastating environmental and public health impact such a project could have on our residential area.  Please support our mission to block the construction of the aforementioned smokestack and prohibit the release of petrochemicals into our air, soil, and water.

I believe that the Zoning Board of Appeals’ January 21st decision to approve Anellotech’s performance standards application was premature. My comments opposing approval can be seen on the Town's YouTube channel here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ag3Q2e91tWw. A pair of reports by independent air pollution experts had been received by the ZBA only hours before the meeting, leaving hardly any time for members of the ZBA and the public to review and ask questions about these reports. As the application now moves back to the Planning Board, I will continue to press for full consideration of possible toxic air emissions and oppose final approval unless all safety concerns are addressed to the satisfaction of the residents of Pearl River and Orangetown. Though there is reason to believe that the emissions from Anellotech may not be as dangerous as some have feared (including the reports by outside experts), too many questions and concerns about the health impacts of this facility remain unanswered. If I wouldn’t want to move my family to a street next to the site why should anyone else have to accept living next to a facility that they fear might pose a threat to their children’s health? That for me is the simple bottom line. The application will be on a Planning Board agenda soon.
