Around the world, pesticides are being used for various reasons allowing humans to eradicate pests but in the process hurt the planet. Pesticides are extremely harmful for animals, the plants they are used on, insects, the environment and us.

They cause serious illnesses to humans from respiratory problems to cancer. They infect the plants we consume harming our bodies, affecting young children the most. 

The creatures of the world are also impacted greatly, including bees who pollinate our plants. They're dying at an alarming pace. Millions of bee colonies over the years have been clasping with an illness known in bees as Colony Collapse Disorder. Beekeepers blame pesticides as the cause of the death of their bee colonies.

A chemical in pesticides almost wiped out bald eagles in 1963. They dropped to 417 breeding pairs! Humans took action and banned the chemical affecting the bald eagles allowing their species to flourish. We must take action once more and save our planet.

Though natural pesticides are sometimes more expensive, there is a solution. Biocontrol is one of the most cost efficient methods of all pesticides and is what we all should be using.

I am fifteen years old and I believe together we can ban these pesticides in Hawaii once and for all! And hopefully, other nations will follow our lead.
