Jan 11, 2017 — Disclaimer: this is my personal statement I made to the media today, please check out the article when it's released and share it to spread the word. "I am happy to hear that the school has sent immediate support to the students. However I am seriously frustrated with the district's response in stating that bullying is not an issue within the school. Clearly, this is offensive to the thousands of supporters including the former students of STM who kindly have chosen to voice their concerns on the school themselves. The school refusing to open an investigation is outrageous. We feel like the focus on the word "bullying" is only the tip of the iceberg, it does not address the entire issue. Our concern is that the environment this school creates between the athletic students and the regular stream students is what fosters the elite atmosphere in the school which then results in isolation and depression, this includes bullying. We would like to hear of a long-term plan to address the concerns myself and others have brought attention to. As I had stated previously as well as in the petition, we are unsure of why Ethan chose to end his life. I have simply asked for a thorough investigation into the school environment that I myself had suffered traumatic experiences in. It's in the best interest of all the students that we dig deeper into this situation before this happens to another family. Thank you to everyone that has signed and shared the petition and been brave enough to speak up and support my request."
