Happy New Year 2021! 

Big Tupper Ski Area is one of the most beautiful and unique recreational areas in New York State!  It was founded by the community of Tupper Lake in 1961 and ran as a successful ski resort until the 1980's when it was sold to a private owner.  

Big Tupper was closed in 1999 by its local owners and then re-opened by a regional volunteer group in 2009.  The ski area operated on a limited basis for several seasons until the 2015-16 season, when a lack of natural snow closed it again for good.  The ski area is currently in property tax foreclosure and will be auctioned off in 2021.   

The Tupper Lake Business Group has made re-opening Big Tupper its top goal in a comprehensive plan to re-establish the Tupper Lake area as a winter and summer recreational hub in the greater Adirondack Park. 

Phase One of the Tupper Lake Business Group’s multi-year plan is to stimulate recreational tourism by:

1.    Re-acquiring the Big Tupper Ski Area property in 2021. This fundraising campaign will support the efforts to purchase the ski area property from Franklin County, New York through a legal process known as a Conveyance of Real Property to Municipalities. .

2.    Expanding local snowmobile trails within the Town of Tupper Lake.

3.    Improving the cross country trail network into a year round multi-modal trail network.

4.    Develop ten miles of new mountain bike trails on DEC property near Rock Island Bay.

5.    Add irrigation to the lower nine holes of the Tupper Lake Golf Club.

Donations will be held in a dedicted Tupper Lake Rotary account at Community Bank, N.A.  If the ski area property does not go to auction, funds will be used to seed the other priorities listed in the recreational plan.  Thank you so much for your contributions and we sincerely appreciate your support for the community of Tupper Lake!
