Hello Big Tupper supporters - Today marks the 19th day of our petition to get NYS to consider the potential economic re-vitalization that an ORDA run Big Tupper Ski Area would bring to the central Adirondacks. It has been an interesting process, with many people coming out of the woodwork to voice their support. To date, we have heard from several local politicians, but nothing has been done to further this discussion.
The Mayor of Tupper Lake, Paul Maroun, who is also our Franklin County Legislator and Of Counsel to Senator Betty Little, has committed to sending a letter to the Governor of New York. We hope that this will stimulate some action, but nothing is ever certain except that when the State decides it wants to finance a project, it does very quickly. Examples of these types of projects...the 30 million plus investment in booming North Hudson, NY which converted the dormant Frontier Town into a horse-riding friendly campground. Another example is the new Midway Lodge going up at Whiteface Mtn., this is probably going to be the most expensive ski lodge in the Northeast at 14 million dollars? With that kind of pull, why wouldn't the Governor see the value in spending approximately the same on restoring the Central Adirondacks winter economy by re-opening Big Tupper as a four season recreational park. We can only hope that this petition helps get his attention...please keep sharing and caring about this very important issue for Tupper Lake and the surrounding hamlets of the Central Adirondacks!
Warm Regards - Rick Donah
