Hi,
I hope you have had a lovely long Easter Weekend.
Sorry about the lengthy email, and entering your inbox. I am rubbish at asking for help, but with just over a month to go I hope you don't mind me reaching out!
As you know I have been campaigning for the rights of those affected by eating disorders for the last 5 years. I have used my experience of living with anorexia for over half my life to tackle issues around treatment, access to support and to end this epidemic that we are seeing across our country. After huge progress last year and regular meetings with Number 10, we are not making progress fast enough. And under the current PM we are getting no commitments to tackle eating disorders. It is no exaggeration to say we currently have an emergency on our hands when it comes to eating disorders.
Daily I meet people who have lost loved ones to eating disorders, people who cannot get treatment and people who have been moved on to palliative care pathways because services have given up on them.
I am continuing to fight to change this because enough is enough. No one should be condemned to a life of illness or be dying of an eating disorder in 2023. This is why on 19th May I am off to 10 Downing Street to drop an open letter to Rishi Sunak to ask for much needed funding and professional support for victims and families of people suffering.
The day after on the 20th May, I am working with a group of volunteers and organising the UK’s first ever Eating Disorder March in Parliament Square. We already have hundreds of people signed up to join us and have a line up of speakers including high profile names, MPs and people with lived experience.
There are a few ways you can help:
- Please sign the open letter here
- Organising a protest doesn’t come cheap, so we are crowd funding for the cost. If you know any businesses who may help from a Corporate Social Responsibility please put me in touch or if you want to donate personally you can here
- If you want to join us for the march on Saturday 20th May you can sign up here
We are a group of volunteers who have suffered the effects of eating disorders. Our passion lies in making this better, removing the stigma and ensuring people fully recover. Full recovery really is possible with the right support.
Please do feel free to pass this on to others who may be interested and do let us know if you have any questions!
Thank you so much for your support!
