Imagine if you turned up at a hospital with a broken leg, and the doctor did the x ray and said: “it isn’t broken enough we can’t help.”
There would be an outcry! The hospital would be looked into and the care scrutinised.
But why then does this so often happen for people with eating disorders?
On Monday I am sure a lot of you will have seen the new NHS Long Term Plan. Following this publication I was invited on to Victoria Derbyshire on to share my thoughts on it but also to talk about #Dumpthescales. Following this the number of people who have reached out to me sharing their stories is amazing although at the same time very upsetting that people being turned away from services is still a really real issue!
We have made good progress over the last few months with the debate in parliament, the EDM1765 (please do keep asking your MPs to sign up to it) BUT we are still not quite there in making this change happen! What will really help is to hit that 100,000 signatures and then we can apply even more pressure on government to get behind this.
Just this week there was another story in the paper about a young girl who had lost her life to her eating disorder because of inadequate support and care. We cannot let this happen anymore! It is a complete injustice to people with eating disorders! You can help me change this by continuing to sign and share the petition!
Please do get involved and let's hit that 100,000! THANK YOU!
For those of you on twitter a few draft tweets (just in case)
Urgent: @InsertMPhere, please support @HopeVirgo and @Wera_Hobhouse in calling on government to overhaul the approach to #EatingDisorders. We need earlier intervention, focus on mental health, improved training and mandatory waiting times. #DumpTheScales, and end the stigma!
I am supporting @HopeVirgo and @Wera_Hobhouse to #Dumpthescales because #Eatingdisorders are not about weight - please sign too https://www.change.org/p/eating-disorders-are-not-just-about-weight-dumpthescales
